image featuring the helmets worn by every f1 world champion

Though not as noticeable these days because of the halo, the driver’s helmet is still one of the most recognizable items of the driver themselves and this print by Last Corner showcases the helmets of every F1 World Champion from the sports’ 70-year history.

The print not only serves as a visual evolution of the helmet itself – from simple leather helmets to today’s aerodynamic and super reinforced variety – but also exposes the evolution from a design point of view.

Note how simple the helmets were in the beginning – just a basic color signified the driver wearing it. Then we start seeing more identifiers, such as the rowing club pattern used by Graham Hill, the simple blue lines of Surtees, and the iconic tartan stripe found on Sir Jackie Stewart’s. It’s not until you get to the 2000s when you find the designs getting more and more complicated, starting with Kimi Räikkönen. Even a look at Hamilton’s Senna-inspired helmet from 2008 seems simplistic compared to the cluttered look of his 2019 version.

The print comes in two sizes – 16.5” x 23.4” (A2) and 23.4” x 33.1”  – and two types of paper, poster or fancy Hahnemühle fineart rag. So the prices vary, from 49 euros to 99 euros (around $54 to $111) depending on which combination you choose.
