box cover of the lego f40 competizione

If you didn’t get a chance to pick up the large 1,000-piece LEGO Ferrari F40, you have a second chance to still get a LEGO version.

Part of the fantastic Speed Champions line that includes many fine racecars, collector cars, and exotics, this LEGO is significantly smaller than its predecessor – about a 1/24 scale as opposed to 1/18 – but so is the hit on your wallet.

Instead of the $100 price tag, you’re looking at only $15 for a 198-piece set. That’s actually not a bad price, considering the average cost of a LEGO set is around 10 cents a brick. So it’s like you’re getting $4 worth of bricks for free.

And here’s the cool bit – you can decide whether you want to build the competizione version (which didn’t exist in the larger set), orthe street version. It includes all the pieces you’ll need.

All youhave to do is swap out the hood pieces for less-aggressive NACA ducts, remove the front splitter/change the headlights from clear to grey, swap out the diffuser for its traditional rear exhaust, change the racing wheels for the stock Speedlines, and switch the rear spoiler color from a black one to a red one and you’ve got the street version.

These sets can be found in-store/online at Target and at LEGO or on Amazon. Go ahead and get one for your child or as a decoration for your desk. Or both. At this price-point, why not?
